Join Our Coffee & Chat Program: Make a Difference in the Lives of Elderly Residents Brighten someone's day and make a meaningful contribution to their quality of life!  Our Coffee & Chat Program is a 1:1 personal visit which helps increase connectedness and happiness among aged care residents. We are looking for special people who put compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.

Many of our residents are looking forward to connecting with a volunteer and building a meaningful friendship. Here are just a few of the wonderful people who would love to welcome a new friendly face into their week:

* 'Elizabeth' is a warm and gentle lady living with dementia who uses a wheelchair. She enjoys the comfort of spending time in her room and loves watching football. Throughout her life, she found great joy in sewing and knitting, although arthritis in her hands now makes these hobbies difficult to continue. 'Elizabeth' would love to welcome a friendly female volunteer who can spend time chatting, sharing a laugh, and building a meaningful friendship. Your companionship could bring joy, connection, and brighten her day, while creating a rewarding experience for you as well.

* 'Michael' is navigating life without his sight and would love a visitor to help bring him out of his shell and spark some joy into his life. He thrives when talking about his family and would love to sit down with his new friend and chat away about his life.

* 'Louise' is a thoughtful and friendly lady who uses a wheelchair and enjoys spending time reading, creating art, and having meaningful one-on-one conversations. She especially loves visits from children, whose energy and curiosity always bring a smile to her face. 'Louise' is looking for a volunteer who enjoys a good chat and can spend quality time building a genuine connection. Whether you're discussing a favourite book, sharing creative interests, or simply enjoying each other's company, your visit could make a lasting difference to her day.

What You’ll Do:

  • Read books, articles or stories aloud
  • Engage in meaningful conversation
  • Enjoy a chat over a cup of coffee
  • Take a stroll in the garden
  • Read books, play cards, or work on puzzles

Why Volunteer?

  • Create meaningful moments for seniors
  • Flexible visits to suit your schedule

Many aged care residents experience loneliness and social isolation. Over 40% of people in aged care don’t have regular visitors. By volunteering just one hour a fortnight, you can make a real difference. You’ll be matched one-on-one with a resident who would value your friendship and companionship. Your visit could brighten their day and help them feel more connected.

Program Details:

  • Dedication: Our special volunteers are people who would like to visit their new friend at least 20 times or more over a twelve-month period (about one visit every two to three weeks or more).
  • Requirements: Must be over 18 years old, pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) (provided and paid for by us) and ideally be available to visit consistently and ongoing.

Ideal Volunteers:

  • Exhibit care and compassion for the elderly
  • Have good communication skills
  • Are committed and punctual

What You’ll Gain:

  • The chance to form long-lasting, meaningful friendships
  • Be part of a friendly team with a strong community spirit
  • Experience the joy of enriching the lives of others
