Cooper House in Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community at Chermside is seeking a Craft Volunteer to support activities such as painting, card‑making, jewellery making and more!
These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!
Craft Volunteers can help residents by:
- Assisting with setting up the space with tables, chairs, and craft supplies.
- Inviting residents to join the session and accompanying them to the lounge, making sure everyone feels welcomed and included.
- Supporting residents as they participate by guiding steps, offering encouragement and helping as needed.
- Wrapping up the session by resetting the room and assisting residents as they transition out of the activity.
- Supporting residents by fostering connection, purpose, and meaningful engagement.
- Communicating resident feedback to staff to assist in improving both the activity and resident enjoyment.
This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.
Volunteer hours are available on Monday or Tuesday afternoons between 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Wednesday or Thursday mornings between 9:00am - 1:00pm or afternoons between 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Your volunteering schedule will be agreed upon prior to commencement.
This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.
Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
