Cooper House at Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community in Chermside is seeking a Men's Activity Volunteer to engage residents through enjoyable and meaningful activities. Using your skills, interests, and experiences, you will help create activities that encourage social connection and participation.
These activities assist residents with socialising, promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging community connectedness. Most importantly they bring joy and create smiles!
Men's Activity Volunteers can help residents by:
- Planning and facilitating activities and group sessions for male residents, such as discussion groups, coffee clubs, history talks, storytelling sessions, sports trivia, gardening projects, and hobby-based activities.
- Sharing your skills, hobbies, interests, or experiences with residents.
- Leading conversations on topics of interest, including cars, fishing, military service, travel, and sport.
- Encouraging participation and supporting residents to feel included and engaged.
- Building positive connections through conversation and shared experiences.
- Fostering a welcoming environment that promotes social interaction and enjoyment.
- Supporting residents to participate at a pace that suits their individual needs.
This role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner when engaging with residents with dementia. This role is especially suited to individuals who have experience with dementia or are willing to learn how to support and connect with residents living with dementia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.
Volunteer hours are available Monday to Friday, with morning or afternoon sessions to suit your availability. Your volunteering schedule will be agreed upon prior to commencement.
This program is located within the Wheller Gardens Aged Care Community where the residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun, and friendship.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received a minimum of one primary COVID-19 vaccination before they are registered in their role.
Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
