Community & Arts Centre located in Altona providing a diverse range of arts, community and sustainability programs and projects.
Position description:
Louis Joel has extensive gardens including annual and perennial edible beds and ornamental gardens.
We’re looking for people who enjoy gardening and are keen to help grow our gardens at Louis Joel assisting with tasks such as propagation, planting, weeding, watering, mulching and composting.
Volunteers may be interested in:
- Learning new information and gaining new skills
- Sharing knowledge and skills with others
- Contributing to wellbeing of community through providing garden produce to people in need
- Connecting with people in the community.
Our gardens are continuously evolving, and this year are planning a project to create an Indigenous garden featuring local flowering herbs and grasses, as well as looking for opportunities to expand the space under food production to support local food security.
The Volunteer Gardener will be part of a team of volunteers involved in maintaining and improving our gardens who all work together to plan and manage the gardens at the Centre.
Location: 5 Sargood St Altona
Skills required:
- Beginners and experienced gardeners are welcome
- Interest in environmental sustainability and biodiversity, indigenous plants, food growing and/or contributing to community wellbeing
Time required:
- Flexible - no set times and hours
- Volunteers work across the week as it fits with their availability
Commitment required: Minimum 6 months
Other requirement:
- Current Working with Children Check
- National Police Check
- Capacity to join volunteer chat group in messenger (Facebook).
