Could you be a friend and advocate for Tom?

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of this role, this role is NOT suitable for student placements, people wanting to gain experience in the sector or used for Centrelink obligations.
Citizen Advocacy connects people with disability to voluntary members of the local community. We are seeking a someone to be a friend and advocate for Tom a gentleman aged 60+ who has an intellectual disability and short-term memory loss. He spends most of his time with paid support workers and would benefit from someone steady and friendly to spend time with him, enjoy a cuppa and a chat, and share in his love of collections, gardening and community activities.
As Tom's advocate, you will build a trusted friendship and help him feel more connected to his community. At times, this may also include speaking up alongside him or helping him navigate situations where he needs extra support. Experience with memory loss would be helpful but is not essential. No formal qualifications are required. What matters most is your willingness to build a genuine relationship and show up consistently.
Your Involvement
This is a flexible, long term role shaped around what suits you both. Time and activities may change over time as needs and circumstances shift. Orientation, training and ongoing support will be provided.
