Fred's Van Volunteer - Adelaide CBD
Advertised by Volunteering SA&NT
Fred’s Van provides a free evening meal in Adelaide CBD six nights a week, serving around 20,000 people each year who may be experiencing homelessness or sleeping rough. Operating from a van on the streets of Adelaide for over 25 years, this vital service relies almost entirely on volunteers. This role is crucial to maintaining the service 6 nights a week and is ideal for individuals who can spare approximately three hours each week.
All volunteers meet at Vinnies Hawthorn, where we have a commercial kitchen facility for preparing and packing meals. Once everything is ready, the team travels together in the Fred’s Van vehicle to Gawler Place in the Adelaide CBD, where we provide meals and drinks to people experiencing homelessness, social isolation, or other forms of disadvantage. After the service, the team returns together to Vinnies Hawthorn.
Team tasks include meal preparation, delivery and serving of a meal, pack down and clean up. This role requires the ability to work effectively as part of a team and to demonstrate a flexible approach to responsibilities. Food handling knowledge is desirable but not essential.
