We currently have an exciting volunteer opportunity within our Fundraising team to contribute to our iconic Coin Collection Dog Program.

About Guide Dogs SA/NT

At Guide Dogs SA/NT we use our expertise in dogs and vision to promote independence, participation, inclusion and wellbeing for people with low vision, blindness or specialised support needs.

About the role

Volunteers play a vital role in our iconic Coin Collection Dog Program which raises considerable funds for our organisation. Our collection dogs are placed in a variety of businesses throughout South Australia, in metropolitan and country locations. Volunteers follow a sequenced list within an area to complete scheduled pick-ups in a Guide Dogs SA/NT vehicle.

We are looking for pairs or our solo volunteers to complete our metropolitan coin collection dog runs. These runs can range from a 4-8 hour day trip from and back to the Guide Dogs SA/NT office. Pairs will go out together and solo volunteers will be paired with another solo volunteer to complete the trip.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect large and small coin collection dogs on set routes throughout metropolitan areas.
• Enjoy meeting people and foster positive relationships with staff, volunteers and members of the public.
• Encourage businesses to continue to collect donations and support Guide Dogs SA/NT
• Take responsibility for own safety and take appropriate remedial action when hazards are observed.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment as required.

About you

This role would be great for individuals or pairs who are looking to volunteer, who enjoy driving and travelling and want to contribute their time in a meaningful and impactful role.

Some key skills and experience required include:

• Good driving and navigational skills.
• Confidence in driving long distances.
• Physical fitness and ability as lifting and bending is involved.
• Ability to make sound judgements under pressure and time constraints and pivot when required.
• Self-motivated and flexible.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Enjoy interacting with and building relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds and businesses.

A current Driver’s License and Police Clearance (paid by Guide Dogs SA/NT) will be required
