Program description: TAC L2P – Learner Driver Mentor Program

The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) - L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program is a free Victorian initiative helping young learner drivers who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle complete the 120 hours required for a probationary licence.

The program is funded by the Transport Accident Commission, administered by the Department of Transport and Planning, and delivered locally by Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services in Melton and Moorabool.

Through volunteer mentoring and access to program vehicles and professional lessons, L2P supports young people to become safe, confident drivers while reducing road trauma.

Position description:

TAC L2P is seeking Volunteer Driver Mentors to support learner drivers in the Melton and Moorabool areas.

  • Supervise learners during on-road sessions
  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and feedback
  • Help learners progress through the Graduated Licensing System
  • Follow program and Child Safe guidelines

Skills requirements:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Patience and a supportive approach
  • Interest in road safety and mentoring young people
  • Respectful and inclusive attitude

Other requirements:

  • Over 21 years of age
  • Full Australian driver’s licence with satisfactory history
  • Medically fit to drive
  • Not a current professional driving instructor
  • Working With Children Check
  • National Police Check

Time commitment: Approximately 1–2 hours per week (flexible scheduling).

Locations: Melton and Moorabool regions.
