Purpose of the Role

• Bring lived experience that informs leadership, governance, and advocacy at a strategic level. This requirement is in line with the organisation’s purpose, values and board composition policy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Board and ensure strong governance, values alignment, and compliance
• Chair Board meetings effectively
• Work collaboratively with the CEO on strategic direction
• Represent the organisation at events and with stakeholder engagement
• Ensure the organisation remains person-centred, inclusive, and rights-based
• Support Board development and succession planning
• Act as a public advocate for people with disability

About You

Essential Selection Criteria

• Identify as a person living with disability
• Demonstrated leadership experience (Board, senior management or community leadership)
• Strong understanding of governance principles
• Demonstrated high level communication skills and emotional intelligence
• Ability to chair meetings and facilitate respectful, inclusive discussion
• Strategic thinking and sound decision-making skills
• Commitment to disability rights, inclusion, and advocacy

Desirable Selection Criteria

• Previous experience as a Board Chair or Deputy Chair
• Knowledge of disability advocacy and/or not-for-profit sector
• Experience working with government, funders, or community stakeholders
• Financial literacy or experience overseeing organisational budgets
