Volunteer Shop Assistant

The Casual Shop Assistant is responsible for providing friendly and welcoming customer service while supporting the day-to-day operations of the shop. This role ensures customers have a positive experience and that transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. The position also contributes to maintaining a clean, organised and inviting retail environment. Key Responsibilities Hospitality & Customer Service • Greet customers warmly and respectfully • Assist customers with product enquiries and purchases • Foster a welcoming, inclusive and culturally sensitive environment Sales & Transactions • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system (training provided) • Process cash and EFTPOS transactions accurately • Issue receipts and follow shop procedures • Assist with end-of-shift cash reconciliation (if required) Shop Presentation • Maintain a clean, tidy and organised shop space • Restock shelves and assist with merchandising displays • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Duty Manager • Follow basic Workplace Health and Safety practices Key Attributes • Friendly, patient, and compassionate nature • Respectful of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and faiths • Honest and reliable when handling money • Comfortable engaging with people from around the world • Willingness to learn POS systems and shop procedures • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
