Short Back & Sidewalks (SBSW) provides haircuts free of charge and free of judgement, to people experiencing
homelessness, financial hardship, and social isolation. Beyond haircuts, we create moments of dignity, confidence, and meaningful human connection. As a Hairdresser or Barber volunteer, your contribution directly supports people to feel seen, respected, and empowered. A haircut may seem small, but it can have a profound impact on someone’s self-esteem, helping them take steps toward work, housing, or simply feeling valued.

About you: What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Qualified hairdresser or barber with confidence in scissors and clippers (apprentices with supervision welcome)
  • Comfortable trimming beards and moustaches
  • Confident with a range of hairstyles (barbering fades and lines are a bonus)
  • Compassionate, approachable, and community-minded
  • Flexible, reliable, and able to commit around 2 hours per month
