Grill’d Community Dinner – Transport Support Volunteer

Vinnies’ Special Works and Community Engagement programs focus on supporting people who may experience homelessness, isolation or social exclusion, prioritising connection, companionship and access to everyday community experiences in safe, welcoming environments.

Partnerships with organisations like Grill’d support this work by creating opportunities for shared meals and positive social interaction, helping people feel welcomed, respected and included in community life.

Transport Support Volunteers play a key role in making this possible by removing barriers to participation through safe, coordinated travel to and from the monthly Grill’d Community Dinner.

Acting as companions, volunteers help create a calm, inclusive and supportive environment from arrival through to return, ensuring participants can access the experience with dignity, ease and comfort.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 4:15pm - Arrive at Oaks Estate to support participant arrival and check‑in
  • 4:30pm - Drive the 12-seat CIP mini-bus and transport participants from Oaks Estate to Grill’d City
  • Support a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment during transport and at the venue
  • Up to 1 hour- Share a meal (burger, chips and a drink provided) and assist with general group awareness and participant support
  • Drive the 12-seat CIP mini-bus and transport participants from Grill’d City back to Oaks Estate
  • Approx. 6:30pm – Return to Oaks

Skills and Knowledge

  • Hold a current, full Australian Driver’s Licence and demonstrate safe, confident driving practices
  • Ability to drive a 12-seat mini-bus and comply with all road safety and transport requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a calm and respectful approach
  • Ability to support a welcoming, inclusive and non-judgmental environment
  • Awareness of personal boundaries, safety and confidentiality
  • Reliable, punctual and able to follow set schedules and procedures
  • Willingness to work within Vinnies values, policies and guidelines
