Frontline Phone Support Volunteer - (Mental Health Focus)

www.4voices.org.au

Be the steady voice that helps women move forward.

At 4 Voices, we believe small, consistent support can create powerful change.

Every day, women across Australia are navigating life transitions - housing stress, financial pressure, digital barriers, family breakdown or complexities, caring responsibilities, or simply feeling overwhelmed by complex systems.

Many don’t need crisis intervention. They need someone to walk alongside them while they take their next step.

That’s where 4 Voices comes in.

Our approach is simple and relational: Cuppas. Conversation. Connection. Change.

And often, that connection begins with a phone call.

It’s not a call centre role. It’s not crisis counselling. It’s consistent, relational support that helps women build confidence and momentum.

Our National Outbound Phone Support Service provides regular weekly check-ins to women who benefit from steady encouragement and practical help navigating everyday systems.

As a Phone Support Volunteer, you’ll support up to three women through a consistent weekly call.

You will:

  • Make a weekly outbound support call to your assigned partners at a consistent day and time
  • Offer encouragement and emotional support
  • Help navigate MyGov, Centrelink and online systems
  • Assist with paperwork, appointments and applications
  • Break down tasks into manageable steps
  • Celebrate progress - big and small
  • Record brief call notes and update your Team Leader as required
  • Follow safeguarding and escalation processes when needed

You’ll Be Supported With

  • Structured onboarding and shadow call preparation
  • Clear boundaries and call frameworks
  • Trauma-informed practice guidance
  • Ongoing supervision and debrief opportunities
  • A caring team environment where guidance is always available

Essential:

  • Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or other relevant discipline qualification or experience
  • Comfortable using digital systems and online portals
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and clear boundaries
  • Valid Working With Children Check
  • Able to volunteer up to 5 hours per week

Why Volunteers Choose This Role:

  • Flexible - volunteer from home
  • Develop practical communication and advocacy skills
  • Be part of a purpose-driven national community
  • See real progress over time

Five hours a week can help someone feel more capable, more confident and less alone.

Experience or study in counselling, psychology, community services or related fields is highly valued, as conversations can sometimes involve complex life circumstances.

This role is about consistency, encouragement and walking alongside someone as they rebuild confidence.
