Looking for a flexible, remote volunteering opportunity where you can make a real impact?

LLAMA (League of Latin American Migrants Australia) is a not-for-profit delivering online English classes to Latin American migrants and international students.

We are seeking English conversation volunteers to support migrants and international students in practising real-life English in an Australian context, from everyday conversations to understanding Aussie slang, accents, and culture.

No teaching experience required, just a willingness to connect and support others.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

LLAMA (League of Latin American Migrants Australia) runs free online English programs supporting Latino migrants and international students across Australia and Latin America.

Sessions are:

  • Delivered via Zoom

  • Run Monday to Friday (8:00 am – 8:30 pm Melbourne time)

  • Small groups (5–15 participants)

  • 1.5 hours session

  • Sessions are offered from complete beginner (zero English) up to upper-intermediate level.

THE ROLE

This is not a formal teaching role. As an English conversation volunteer, you will:

  • Help participants practise spoken English in a relaxed setting

  • Encourage participation and build confidence

  • Facilitate relaxed discussions using simple topics

  • A key part of this role is helping participants become familiar with real-life Australian English, including common expressions, accents, and cultural context they will encounter in daily life.

WHO YOU WILL SUPPORT

  • Adult migrants (20–65 years old)

  • Latin American and Portuguese-speaking backgrounds

  • People improving English for work, study, and daily life in Australia

Your conversations can help participants:

  • Feel more confident speaking at work or in job interviews

  • Navigate everyday situations (shopping, transport, healthcare)

  • Build social connections in Australia

WHO THIS ROLE SUITS

This role is ideal for people who:

-Are native or fluent English speakers

-Have an interest in multicultural communities or Latin culture

-Are friendly, patient, and enjoy talking with people

-Can create a welcoming and inclusive environment

-Are reliable and able to commit to a regular session

-Australian background or strong familiarity with Australian culture, communication style, and everyday expressions is highly valued, as it helps participants adapt to life in Australia.

COMMITMENT

  • 1 session per week or fortnight

  • 1.5 hours per session

  • Fully remote / online volunteering

  • Choose a time that suits your schedule

SUPPORT & TRAINING

We provide:

  • Conversation topics and session guidance

  • Optional observation of existing sessions

  • Ongoing support from the English Program Coordinator
