West Welcome Wagon is grassroots, volunteer-powered not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne’s western suburbs. Since 2013, we have been dedicated to welcoming and supporting people seeking asylum and refugees as they rebuild their lives in Australia through the provision of practical material aid.
Position description:
West Welcome Wagon is seeking reliable and community-minded Volunteer Drivers to support the delivery of essential household items across Melbourne’s west.
In this role, you will collect and transport donated goods, assist with loading and unloading, and help ensure items reach clients safely and respectfully.
You will need a valid driver’s licence and a willingness to undertake some physical tasks. Most importantly, you are compassionate, culturally aware, and committed to supporting people from diverse backgrounds.

Purpose of the role:
- Transport donated goods (furniture, household items, etc.)
- Support logistics and delivery to clients
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and deliver donated items
- Load and unload goods (light to moderate lifting required)
- Represent West Welcome Wagon respectfully with clients, volunteers, and staff
- Follow safety and manual handling procedures
- Communicate with clients and coordinators regarding delivery schedules
Location:
West Welcome Wagon is located at Unit 3, 42-46 Vella Drive, Sunshine West Vic 3020.
This role involves driving across the seven local government areas of the western suburbs.
Skills required:
- Excellent driver.
- Ability and willingness to undertake physical tasks, e.g. light to moderate lifting (with equipment such as trolleys, etc.).
- Compassionate, culturally aware, and committed to supporting people from diverse backgrounds.
Time required:
1-2 days per week (on either Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday), up to 3 hours per shift
Commitment required:
3 months, with ongoing opportunities available
Other requirements:
- Full Victorian Driver’s Licence
- Current Working With Children Check
- Willingness to sign and adhere to West Welcome Wagon’s Vehicle Use Policy
- Commitment to the safe operation of the organisation’s van (including hydraulic lift) and lifting equipment (e.g. trolleys)
- Sign West Welcome Wagon Volunteer Agreement
