About the Don River Railway: The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. Our retail shop and ticket counter are the primary points of contact for our visitors, playing a crucial role in their overall experience and contributing directly to our financial sustainability.

Anticipated Impact & Why Volunteer with Us: Your contribution as a Retail Attendant is invaluable to the Don River Railway. You will:

Directly enhance visitor experience: You are often the first and last point of contact, making a significant impact on how visitors perceive their day at DRR.
Support DRR's financial sustainability: Your role in sales directly contributes to the revenue needed to maintain our operations and heritage preservation efforts.
Be part of a living museum: Work in a unique heritage environment, surrounded by railway history and passionate individuals.
Develop customer service skills: Gain valuable experience in retail operations, sales, and public interaction.

Commitment

Regular - less than 6 months

Training

Mandatory induction. On-the-job training for POS system, cash handling, and customer service.

Time required

Flexible rostered shifts, typically 4-6 hours per shift, primarily on operating days (Thurs-Sun). Min. 1 shift/month. Max 15 hrs/week.

Reimbursement

Approved out-of-pocket expenses (e.g., pre-approved travel) reimbursed.

Requirements

National Police Certificate
Working with Vulnerable People Check

Applicants should possess strong customer service skills and be comfortable handling transactions. All successful applicants undergo a National Police Certificate check and a Working with Vulnerable People Check (Registration to Work with Vulnerable People in Tasmania). All costs for these checks are covered by Don River Railway. We seek individuals with a friendly demeanour, attention to detail, and a commitment to teamwork.
