About the organisation Street Side Medics is a not-for-profit, GP-led mobile medical service for people experiencing homelessness. Our vision is to ensure that all vulnerable individuals requiring healthcare can access it effortlessly, with dignity and respect.
At Street Side Medics make long term commitments to the communities in which we work. By teaming up with local community partners, and delivering our clinics from the same place, at the same time, on the same day, each week, we’re able to build lasting relationships and ensure continuity of care.
The team on the ground each week are all volunteers and include GPs, other medical specialists, junior doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and other medical and non-medical super stars. The clinics operate from vans with full medical fit outs, and work in conjunction with other homeless services 6 days a week at 13 different locations across New South Wales and Victoria (and soon to be ACT).
About the Opportunity We are currently recruiting GP's at our upcoming Canberra clinic to volunteer once a month, totaling ~3 hours. The Canberra clinic will operate on Thursday evenings from 5pm – 7pm alongside Vinnies Roadhouse in Civic.
As a GP your role is to provide the same medical care you provide at your own clinic or workplace. In our clinics, our GPs work closely with support staff including Medical Support Officers (MSO’S including Junior Doctors and Medical Consultants), Clinical Support Officers (Registered Nurses and Paramedics) and Allied Health professionals to consult with patients and provide referrals and care plans.
Benefits include a chance to become part of a tight knit volunteer community while providing meaningful and immediate support to the most vulnerable amongst us. You will also have the opportunity to learn and get access to our key speakers at our annual education days.
