The Ozanam Learning Centre is a community centre based in Woolloomooloo where people can connect, learn, participate in activities and workshops, and access a wide range of supports. Our work aims to provide opportunities for inclusion and support for those who need it. We offer creative programs such as art, music, health, well-being and recovery programs, personal development and living skills programs.

We are proud of the activities in the centre and would like to re-introduce the Creative Writing activity.

We are proud of the activities offered at the Centre and are excited to reintroduce our Creative Writing program.

As the facilitator of this drop-in session, you will guide participants in developing their own writing projects, which may include storytelling, short stories, creative non-fiction, poetry, and personal essays. You will develop engaging lesson plans, themes, and writing exercises in advance, working collaboratively with Team Leaders to ensure activities align with program goals, participant needs and be trauma informed.****  While sessions will be structured around planned topics and activities, you will remain flexible in supporting participants' individual interests, goals, and creative projects.

You will encourage and inspire participants to develop their writing skills, build confidence in their creative expression, and explore pathways to further artistic development and education. You will help establish and maintain a lively, welcoming, cooperative, and inspiring atmosphere where participants feel supported to learn, create, and share their work.

To be successful in this role, you will have a passion for creative writing and some experience teaching or facilitating writing, poetry, and storytelling. You will be comfortable preparing structured lesson plans and activities while adapting to the interests and abilities of a diverse group of participants. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage conflict, together with a warm, friendly personality, patience, and compassion, are essential.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support people in discovering and developing their creative voice while contributing to a vibrant and inclusive community program.

To do this role you will have a passion for and some experience in teaching creative writing, poetry, and storytelling. You will have good people skills, including ability to manage conflict, and a warm, friendly personality, patience, and compassion.

The Ozanam Learning Centre is open between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm on weekdays. We would like the volunteer to be available for two hours every week on Mondays between 1.30 – 3.30 pm.

All prospective volunteers will be invited to have a one-on-one tour of the facilities and services to see if the environment best suits them.
