Volunteer Position

Help shape the future for Carers in South Australia.

Carers SA is the peak body for Carers in South Australia, advocating for greater recognition and improved support. Carers SA provides services and support for Carers of all ages and is the Statewide lead Carer Gateway provider.

We are seeking a values-driven and experienced professional to join our volunteer Board as a Non-Executive Director, with a focus on finance and risk governance.

About the Role As a Board Director, you will contribute to the strategic direction, governance and sustainability of Carers SA.

The ideal candidate will have strong desire to take on a future key leadership position as the responsible person for the Finance and Risk Committee (Board sub-committee), supporting strong financial stewardship and risk oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to Board governance, strategy and decision-making to ensure Carers SA carries out its purpose
• Provide oversight of financial performance, sustainability and risk management
• Active involvement in the Finance and Risk Sub-Committee
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and reporting obligations (including ACNC requirements)
• Support and guide the CEO and executive team through appropriate governance channels

About You We are seeking candidates who brings:

• An alignment to Carers SA Values
• Strong financial expertise (e.g. CPA, CA, or senior finance leadership experience)
• Experience in governance, risk, audit, or financial management
• An understanding of the community services or not-for-profit sector
• The ability to think strategically and contribute at Board level

Highly regarded:

• Lived experience as an unpaid carer, or a strong understanding of the caring role
• Previous Board or committee experience

Commitment

• Attendance at Board meetings (typically Monthly)
• Participation in Finance and Risk Committee meetings
• Preparation and engagement outside of meetings as required
• This is a voluntary (unpaid) position. Reasonable expenses may be reimbursed.
