Key Duties

  • Take part in supervised gardening activities such as weeding, planting, pruning, watering, and mulching
  • Support older community members by helping maintain safe and tidy garden spaces
  • Follow all instructions, safety guidelines, and demonstrations provided by the facilitator
  • Use tools and equipment carefully and return them after use (all provided on site)

This program consists of weekly 3-hour group sessions, making the experience both engaging and rewarding. Throughout the program, you’ll see the direct impact of your efforts on older individuals — socially, psychologically, and even financially. Location will be client (older persons) gardens located in Ryde, Hunters Hill, Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai.

At the end of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion to acknowledge their valuable contribution and learning.

The program is structured as a group in-person volunteering workshop, and I’m currently collecting expressions of interest to form groups. Sessions will run on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday , based on group preference at 10am to 1pm.

I highly encourage forming a group with friends who share your interest. If you’d prefer, you can also join individually — and I’ll help connect you with other interested students to form a group. Group sizes will range from 3–10 students, depending on interest and availability.

If you choose to organise your own group, you’re welcome to take on a team leader role, which is great experience to include on your CV. I plan to send a group email to all students by the end of next week to introduce everyone and set up a Zoom meeting where we can finalize the details together. Looking forward to hearing from you! Once the 3 week program is done and if you would like to continue volunteering with us, I am also happy to assist you in that.
