Make a Meaningful Difference in the Lives of Men Living with Dementia
Support social connection, companionship, and purposeful activity for men living with dementia by assisting with group outings.
Role Overview
Based at the Maranoa House in Canterbury, volunteers will support staff in welcoming members to the Men’s Dementia Support Club, engaging them in friendly conversation, and helping create a relaxed, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
Volunteers will assist staff during social outings, including escorting members on and off a 12‑seater bus and helping to ensure each activity or outing is enjoyable, safe, and well supported. Maranoa House provides a home‑style setting that focuses on social connection, shared interests, and meaningful engagement. Volunteers are warmly welcomed, supported by experienced staff, and offered rewarding opportunities to build rapport with members while learning more about dementia and person‑centred support.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking volunteers who are patient, empathetic, and comfortable engaging with men living with dementia. Volunteers should be able to provide calm, respectful support to individuals with varying needs and feel confident offering reassurance to members who may experience confusion, anxiety, or changes in mood. An interest in conversation, practical activities, or supporting group interaction is highly valued, along with a friendly and reliable approach.
