Community Liaison Assistant

Role Purpose
To make sure that everyone who comes to Clota Cottage Neighbourhood House feels welcomed, has an enjoyable experience and would like to come back.
Many different activities take place at Neighbourhood Houses. No two days are alike. So if you thrive on variety and creating a fun community place, this might be the role for you! Clota Cottage offers adult education classes, seniors programs, social group activities, and a range of community support programs. You will ensure the place is inviting and ready for activities, carry out general administration tasks, and community-focussed activities that align with your strengths.
General responsibilities for our Community Support and Administration volunteers:
- General community focused tasks in line with your skills to support the operations of Clota Cottage.
- Welcome visitors, answer the phone, respond to general queries and assist community members.
- Ensure activity rooms are tidy and ready for use with required equipment. Assist in keeping the reception area tidy and well organised.
- Assist with enrolments and receipt of payments.
- Assist with visual appearance of the neighbourhood house, ensure notice boards are update to date and neat and tidy. Decorate for special themed activities such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, Seniors Month, etc.
- Other operational and programs tasks as required.
Additional tasks will depend very much on your own interest, skills and strengths, also taking into account operational requirements, and might include any of the following (but not all these tasks of course).
- Community Program Support with potential to get involved in cooking, gardening or craft group activities.
- Adult education support – preparation of course materials, check attendance, confirm upcoming attendance, survey past learners, etc.
- Assist with purchasing – monitor stock levels of stationery, office supplies, and other resources, research equipment purchases/quotes.
- Translation and interpreting as required, Chinese speaking.
- Data entry, reports, statistical analysis.
- Providing general IT support to community members (training provided).
Desired Skills and Attributes:
- Background in Community Development/Services, Administration, Marketing or Hospitality demonstrated through experience and/or studies.
- Computer literacy is beneficial, and ability to quickly learn if required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good time-management, planning, and administrative skills.
- Sound judgment and discretion when liaising with staff, students, volunteers, community.
- Ability to work with limited supervision at times.
- A desire to join a community based organisation.
