Join us a little bit after NAIDOC Week for a meaningful day at Tom Packer Reserve. This special event will bring us together to connect, learn about First Nations culture, and help to breathe new life into Athelstone's green spaces.

We will begin the morning by planting 700 seedlings before being joined by local Kaurna and Peramangk man Uncle Ivan-Tiwu Copley, who will be yarning with us over some lunch, offering an opportunity to openly listen, learn, and reflect together as part of NAIDOC Week.

A free lunch will be provided, and you'll also receive a native bush food seedling sourced from Red Centre Enterprises - a First Nations organisation - so you can take a piece of the Urban Shade Forests home with you!

What skills or experience do I need? No prior experience is necessary! Our Team Leaders will provide volunteers with safety inductions and training in the activity. A can do attitude and willingness to work with others are all the skills you need to be a Conservation Volunteer.

Generally all are welcome - our events are suitable for most age groups (ages 10 - 85). Children aged 3-14 must be directly supervised by a parent or legal guardian. Some of our sites do have unstable ground and tree planting can require you to bend down frequently, but if you have any concerns about participating, just contact us.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • Once you send through your application via Seek, we will be in touch with registration details. Spaces are limited, and they do fill up!

  • No previous experience is required. We will provide you with all the know-how on site.

  • You need to make your own way to and from the project site. We do not offer transport.

  • We can provide you with a certificate of appreciation for coming along and helping out (this looks great on a resume!)
