The Australasian Dark Sky Alliance (ADSA) is seeking a passionate Board Member to help lead initiatives to reduce light pollution and preserve the night environment. Ideal candidates bring expertise in marketing, communications, or community development to strengthen ADSA’s impact, drive engagement, and raise awareness of our mission. Board Member Position Description Organization: Australasian Dark Sky Alliance (ADSA) Location: Remote (Australasia-wide) Position Type: Voluntary (Honorary), Board of Directors About Us Founded in 2019, ADSA is an independent, non-profit organization focused on protecting the night environment across Australasia. We advocate for responsible lighting, educate the public, and support the creation of dark sky places to protect human health, wildlife, and the nocturnal environment. The Role ADSA is seeking a new Board Member to strengthen our strategic governance and operational growth. While we operate with a dedicated volunteer team, we need a strategic leader to help elevate our brand, connect with new communities, and increase membership. Key Responsibilities Strategic Direction: Contribute to the development and implementation of the ADSA strategic plan. Marketing & Brand Awareness: Elevate ADSA’s profile across Australia and New Zealand. Community Development: Foster relationships with local communities, government stakeholders, and partners to expand the dark sky movement. Governance: Ensure legal and financial accountability, upholding the organisation's mission and values. Advocacy & Outreach: Represent ADSA at events and help build initiatives that reduce light pollution. Desired Skills & Experience Marketing & Communications: Experience in developing communication strategies, brand positioning, or social media campaigns. Community Engagement: Experience in building community interest, organizing grassroots support, or stakeholder engagement. Background in Related Fields: Knowledge of environmental sustainability, tourism, lighting design, or non-profit governance is highly regarded. Strategic Thinking: Ability to contribute to high-level decision-making and sustainable growth. Passionate Advocacy: A commitment to reducing light pollution and conserving the night sky. Commitment Attendance at regular, quarterly board meetings. Active participation in strategic discussions and subcommittee work. Why Join Us?
