Position description

The Inclusive Roots Project is a community-based initiative that supports people with disability to build accessible garden spaces using recycled materials. The project focuses on sustainability, wellbeing, and skill development, creating opportunities for participants to grow food, connect with others, and build confidence through hands-on activities.

As the Inclusive Roots Project Volunteer, you will support participants during gardening and outdoor activities, helping to create a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Tasks may include

• Welcoming and supporting participants
• Assisting with garden set-up and maintenance
• Supporting planting, watering, and basic garden care
• Encouraging a safe, inclusive and respectful environment

Location: Melbourne western suburbs (project sites to be confirmed)

Skills required

Essential

• Warm, patient and supportive approach
• Good communication skills
• Ability to engage respectfully with diverse community members
• Willingness to participate in hands-on outdoor activities

Desirable

• Experience working with people with disability
• Interest in gardening or sustainability
• Interest in community services

Time required: To be confirmed (based on project activities)

Commitment required: 6 months or longer preferred
