Volunteers Required - 2026 Special Olympics Australia National Games

The 2026 Special Olympics Australia National Games will take place in Melbourne from 19–23 October, bringing together athletes with intellectual disability and/or autism from across Australia.

To make the Games possible, Special Olympics Australia is seeking more than 800 volunteers to support one of the country’s largest inclusive sporting events.

Volunteers will help welcome teams and families, assist with event operations and support key moments throughout the Games.

Opportunities include:

• Assisting with sporting competitions

• Preparing and supporting medal ceremonies

• Welcoming athletes at airports and accommodation

• Transport and logistics support

• Media liaison and content production (writing, photography and videography)

• Helping deliver major moments such as the Opening Ceremony

In 2026, Special Olympics will celebrate 50 years of changing lives through sport in Australia - and there’s no better way to mark this milestone than with our biggest national event.

By volunteering, you will help create an unforgettable experience for athletes while being part of this milestone year.

Volunteers can nominate their preferred sports or service areas when registering, with opportunities available both behind the scenes and in the heart of the action.

People aged 16 years and over are eligible to volunteer. All volunteers will complete an online induction and safeguarding training ahead of the event, with those aged 18 and over required to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
