Every shift is an opportunity to have a positive impact. As a volunteer, you'll:

  • Help patients feel welcomed, supported, and cared for during their hospital stay.
  • Give a voice to patients by helping collect feedback that directly contributes to improving hospital services.
  • Support busy healthcare teams so they can focus on delivering exceptional clinical care
  • Gain valuable experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Develop confidence, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Meet new people and become part of a friendly, supportive volunteer community.
  • Experience the satisfaction of knowing your time makes a real difference to patients and families.

Working alongside our hospital team, you'll provide practical and compassionate support by: 💙 Spending time with patients who would appreciate a friendly conversation or companionship, particularly those without regular visitors or staying longer than expected. 📝 Interviewing patients and assisting them to complete experience surveys that help improve the quality of care for future patients. 👋 Welcoming patients and visitors, helping them find their way around the ward, and providing information about hospital services and facilities. 🚶 Supporting falls prevention initiatives by keeping identified patients engaged and monitored under staff guidance. 📂 Assisting ward staff with a variety of non-clinical tasks including preparing admission packs, photocopying, filing, data entry, organising paperwork, and restocking clinical supplies and equipment. Every task you complete helps create a smoother experience for patients while supporting our dedicated healthcare staff.

No previous healthcare experience is required—we'll provide all the training and support you need. We're looking for volunteers who are:

  • Friendly, approachable, and compassionate.
  • Excellent communicators and active listeners.
  • Organised and happy to assist with a variety of tasks.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to use initiative.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Respectful of confidentiality, privacy, and professional boundaries.

If you enjoy helping people and making meaningful connections, you'll thrive in this role.

All volunteers receive comprehensive orientation, mandatory training, and ongoing support from experienced hospital staff and the Volunteer Services team, ensuring you feel confident and well-prepared in your role.

Sometimes the smallest gestures have the greatest impact. Whether you're sharing a conversation with a patient, helping a visitor find their loved one, preparing resources for the ward, or gathering feedback that shapes future care, you'll be helping create a more welcoming, compassionate, and patient-focused hospital experience. Volunteer with us and help make every interaction count—for our patients, our staff, and our community.
