Become a Volunteer Visitor – Support an Older Afghan Lady

Ageing with Grace

Logo for Ageing with Grace

We are currently seeking a friendly and engaging Volunteer Visitor (aged 18 and over) to provide companionship to an older Afghan lady who speaks Hazaragi/Dari. This rewarding role requires patience, compassion, and reliability. No prior experience is necessary—just warmth, dependability, and a genuine interest in connecting with others.

Fatima would benefit from one-on-one companionship with someone who speaks her language and can help her feel understood and connected. She enjoys spending time walking in the garden, talking, and sharing quiet companionship. Fatima is living with cognitive impairment, including dementia, so a calm, patient, and understanding volunteer would be highly valued. A volunteer who understands or respects Islamic culture would also be beneficial.

If you have an hour to spare each week or fortnight and would like to make a lasting impact in someone’s life, we would love to hear from you.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a government-funded program designed to reduce social isolation and foster meaningful social connections for older people.

As a Volunteer Visitor, you will spend time with an older person on a regular basis—ideally weekly, or at minimum fortnightly—building a genuine friendship through shared activities and conversation.

Volunteering in this role can be incredibly rewarding for both you and the person you visit. Regular companionship has been shown to improve quality of life and reduce feelings of loneliness. Your time and presence can bring great joy and connection.

All volunteers are required to complete a National Police Check and will receive ongoing support and training from an ACVVS Program Coordinator.
