Board Director - Treasurer
Foodbank Tasmania is a leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to addressing food insecurity by sourcing and distributing food to individuals and families in need. We work with a network of community partners to ensure food relief reaches those most vulnerable across Tasmania. As a member of the national Foodbank federation, we contribute to a coordinated, country-wide effort to reduce hunger and improve food system resilience. As we continue to strengthen our governance and strategic direction, we are seeking to appoint skills-based board directors who bring expertise in key functional areas critical to the organisation’s success.
The Role of the Board
The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership, oversight, and governance to ensure Foodbank Tasmania remains sustainable, compliant, and impactful. The board supports the CEO, stewards organisational values, manages risk, and upholds fiduciary duties, while bringing independent insight and judgement to decision-making.
Accounting and Finance Expertise on the Board
We are seeking a new board member with senior-level accounting, finance, or commercial expertise to serve as Treasurer and help guide Foodbank Tasmania’s financial sustainability, governance, risk oversight, and long-term organisational resilience.
Key Contributions Expected at Board Level
· Provide governance oversight of Foodbank Tasmania’s financial strategy, budgeting, reporting, audit processes, and financial controls.
· Offer strategic advice and independent judgement on accounting, finance, investment, risk, and commercial matters.
· Support the executiv with Foodbank Tasmania’s strategy.
· Serve as an ambassador for the mission, helping build strategic relationships within professional networks, including business, finance, government, philanthropic, and community sectors.
Commitment & Expectations
· Attend regular board meetings (approximately 12 per year), plus sub-committees as needed).
· Participate in strategic planning sessions and fundraising initiatives.
· Actively contribute to discussions and decision-making with integrity and due diligence.
· Serve as an ambassador for Foodbank Tasmania within the broader community and sector.
