Role Purpose

As our Visual Artist / Illustrator with Oot and Aboot Outdoors, you will bring the heart and soul of Play Outdoors: Camp Connect Experience to life through art — creating warm, inclusive and nature-inspired visual elements that make every participant feel welcome, seen and celebrated.

Play Outdoors is a free, inclusive outdoor community event for LGBTQIA+ adults in Frankston — designed to show people what a day in nature actually feels and looks like, for those who have never felt outdoor spaces were for them. Your artwork will be the first thing participants see and the thing they remember long after the day is over.

We are looking for an artist or illustrator who connects with this mission — someone who understands what it means to create art that is genuinely inclusive and affirming for LGBTQIA+ people, and who can bring that warmth and care to every element they create.

What You’ll Do

  • Design a custom illustrated camp map of the event space — the centrepiece visual of the event, handed to every participant on arrival
  • Create event signage with a warm, nature-inspired aesthetic
  • Design digital promotional assets for social media — Instagram and Facebook
  • Collaborate with Oot & Aboot's brand volunteer on overall visual consistency
  • Deliver final print-ready and digital files before the event date

What You’ll Bring

  • Illustration, graphic design or visual art skills
  • Your own design software or tools
  • A warm, inclusive and nature-inspired visual sensibility
  • Comfort creating art that celebrates and affirms LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Ability to deliver files in print-ready and digital formats
  • Reliability and ability to meet deadlines
  • Based in or near Frankston preferred but not essential

What You’ll Get Out of It

  • Real-world community event design experience for your portfolio
  • Your work displayed at the event and published across Oot & Aboot's social media channels with full credit
  • A letter of participation from Oot & Aboot for your portfolio or resume
  • Coverage under Oot & Aboot's Volunteer Personal Accident Insurance
  • The satisfaction of creating art that makes LGBTQIA+ people feel welcome and celebrated in the outdoors

Reporting Line

  • Reports to the Event Lead on the day
