Help shape the future of Bellbrae Cemetery and make a lasting difference in your local community!

The Bellbrae Cemetery Trust (established in 1864) is always looking for dedicated, community-minded individuals to join our team. We maintain an open, ongoing recruitment process for new Trust Members to fill vacancies as they arise, offering an opportunity to contribute to both strategic leadership and hands-on community service.

Whether you are a seasoned professional with governance experience or a passionate local keen to preserve our regional heritage, we always welcome new perspectives to match our evolving needs. This is a rewarding volunteer position appointed for a term of up to five years.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OPPORTUNITIES

Our Trust Members share the responsibilities of running the cemetery, combining strategic oversight with practical community connection. Involvement is flexible based on your background and interests across these areas:

  • Leadership & Governance: Guide the Trust’s future through strategic planning, policy review, and governance compliance—with the potential to step up as the Trust’s Chairperson.

  • Project & Business Management: Apply your skills in financial management, risk and compliance, or overseeing specific community projects.

  • Operational & Community Support: As part of the role, members are also encouraged to participate in "on-the-ground" support, such as assisting with stakeholder engagement, meeting with families to guide them through plot selection, or representing the Trust at interments. Please note: While this community-facing side is a valuable part of what we do, it is entirely optional if you do not feel comfortable with these specific tasks.

COMMITMENT & BENEFITS

  • Flexible Involvement: Contribution is primarily through quarterly meetings, alongside various project or operational tasks based on your availability.

  • Team Environment: Work alongside a passionate, unpaid volunteer team ensuring a peaceful resting place for generations to come.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • No specific cemetery experience is required—we value a diverse mix of professional skills and community passion.
  • Strong communication skills and a respectful, empathetic approach when engaging with local families and stakeholders.
  • Ability to commit to quarterly meetings and administrative or operational tasks on a regular basis.
