Vic Park Community Centre (VPCC) is looking for a practical, community-minded Volunteer Handyperson to help maintain and improve our vibrant community space.

From small repairs and basic maintenance to keeping our facilities welcoming and safe, this role is perfect for someone who enjoys some light hands-on work and wants to use their skills to make a visible difference in the local community.

Every task you complete helps ensure our centre remains a welcoming place where people can connect, learn, create and belong.

About Vic Park Community Centre

Vic Park Community Centre (VPCC) is a community-led not-for-profit organisation based in East Victoria Park, Western Australia.

We provide programs, workshops, events and community initiatives that bring people together and foster wellbeing, inclusion and connection. Our centre is a busy and well-loved community space used by people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Opportunity

As a Volunteer Handyperson, you'll help maintain the centre's building, equipment and outdoor spaces so they remain safe, functional and welcoming for community members, volunteers, staff and visitors.

This role offers flexibility and variety, with sporadic tasks changing depending on the centre's needs, your skills and interests.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks may include:

  • Performing minor repairs and maintenance around the centre
  • Assembling furniture, shelving or equipment
  • Hanging pictures, noticeboards and signage
  • Basic painting and touch-up work
  • Assisting with garden and outdoor maintenance projects
  • Conducting simple safety checks and identifying maintenance issues

Skills and Experience

We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys practical, hands-on work
  • Has basic handyman, maintenance, trade or DIY skills
  • Can work independently and safely
  • Is reliable and takes pride in their work
  • Has good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Enjoys contributing to their local community

Experience in building maintenance, carpentry, painting, gardening, or trades is welcomed but not essential.

Retirees, semi-retired tradespeople, hobby DIY enthusiasts and skilled community members are encouraged to get in touch.

Requirements

  • Ability to undertake light to moderate physical tasks
  • Commitment to working safely and following instructions
  • Positive attitude and willingness to contribute
  • National Police Clearance and Working With Children Check required
