About the Role

Wesley Aged Care Volunteer Visitors is a service that brings hope and companionship to older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated. We are looking for a patient and compassionate volunteer to visit an older gentleman with hearing loss who cannot hear but can speak and communicate through writing. He would benefit from regular social connection with someone who is comfortable adapting communication styles and taking time to build trust and understanding.

This role is ideal for someone who is calm, friendly, and able to enjoy simple shared moments such as writing notes to each other, going for walks, doing activities together, and spending relaxed one-on-one time.

Requirements:

  • Aged 18 years or older
  • Patient, compassionate, and confident communicating through writing, gestures, and simple face-to-face interaction
  • Willingness to commit to regular visits (minimum one hour per fortnight)
  • Minimum commitment of 12 months
  • Completion of an interview process
  • Successful National Criminal History Check
  • Provision of referee checks
  • Willingness to follow Wesley Mission policies, including confidentiality and professional boundaries

What You’ll Do

  • Visit an older person regularly (usually once a week or fortnight)
  • Build connection through writing, shared activities, walks, and patient conversation
  • Help reduce loneliness and increase social connection
  • Build a genuine and rewarding friendship

What You’ll Gain

  • A meaningful way to make a difference in someone’s life
  • A genuine connection built on patience, kindness, and trust
  • Flexible volunteering that fits into your lifestyle
  • Full support and guidance from our friendly team
