Assistant Coach – UWA UBL Program / Volunteer
UWA Sport is seeking motivated and committed Assistant Coaches for our Men’s and Women’s teams competing in the 2026 University Basketball League (UBL). This volunteer role offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to a high performance university basketball environment and support the development of emerging student athletes.
We welcome coaches at all stages of their coaching journey, including emerging coaches, pathway coaches, and current assistants looking to expand their leadership experience. We strongly encourage applications from women coaches as we continue to grow representation in high performance sport.
The University Basketball League is a national competition endorsed by Basketball Australia and supported by State Basketball Associations. Fourteen universities compete in a home and away season during Semester Two (August–October), culminating in a national finals series.
The Opportunity
As an Assistant Coach, you will support the Head Coach in delivering a structured, competitive, and athlete centred program. This volunteer role provides meaningful experience in a national level high performance environment, ideal for coaches seeking development, pathway progression, or broader exposure within the Australian basketball landscape.
Season Overview
Pre season training: June –July
Home games: 5 games in Perth
Away games: 2 interstate trips – no travel required
• Adelaide (August)
• Melbourne double header (September)
Key Responsibilities
• Training session support - assisting with planning and delivering team training
• Game day coaching assistance - supporting tactical decisions, rotations, and bench management
• Athlete development – supporting the progress and contributing to Individual Athlete Performance Plans
• Culture building - modelling values and contributing to a cohesive team environment
