POSITION VACANT Treasurer and Board Director (Voluntary)
ORGANISATION: Highlands Community Centres Inc
LOCATION: Bowral NSW, 2576
HOURS: Typically, 5 to 8 hours per month, including:
One evening board meeting
Meeting preparation and review of documents
Occasional ‘special’ meetings
Participation in governance projects as determined at the annual strategic planning meeting each January/February, and
Approval of wages and expenses payments.
While Board meeting attendance in person is required, other aspects of the role can often be done remotely. Attendance at the Annual General Meeting in December each year is also a requirement.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Highlands Community Centres Inc. (HCC) is a non-profit, incorporated, Registered Charity, supporting children, young people, families and community in the Wingecarribee LGA. HCC has been working with the Southern Highlands community for more than 40 years.
We are currently funded primarily by the NSW Dept of Communities and Justice under the Community and Family Services (CAFS) program, with additional funding provided by the Dept of Education, National Indigenous Australians Associations (NIAA) and other small grants and private donations.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Treasurer to join our voluntary Board of Management. This is an exciting opportunity to provide financial leadership, ensure sound governance and contribute to the growth and sustainability of our organisation.
Our vision is a safe and well-connected community for children, young people, their families and community. To achieve this goal, we work with our community and partners to promote the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and families. In addition to our own activities, we provide support and auspice for other local organisations, as needed.
HCC is a Child Safe Organisation committed to the safety, wellbeing and protection of children and young people from abuse, neglect and harm. We have zero tolerance to any form of child abuse and are committed to full compliance with all applicable child protection laws, regulations and mandatory reporting requirements.
HCC is managed by a Service Manager with seven (8) staff reporting directly to her. These include Youth Workers, Community Workers, an Aboriginal Community Worker and an administrator and NILS coordinator. We work closely with other local organisations, Wingecarribee Shire Council and the Dept of Communities and Justice.
Key Responsibilities of the Position
Provide financial oversight, including participating in budgeting, reporting and monitoring performance.
Working with our Accountant and Service Manager to prepare accurate monthly financial reports for the Board of management.
Act as a co-signatory on annual accountability documents as required by our funding bodies.
Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations.
Support strategic decision making alongside fellow committee members.
Assist other members of the Board to improve their knowledge and understanding of relevant financial matters and reports.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications in accounting, finance or financial management.
Knowledge of, or interest in, the not-for-profit/community sector.
Experience in governance within a not-for-profit context (desirable).
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to decision making.
Experience in the use of Xero software for data entry/extraction and reporting.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
A Working With Children Check (WWCC) prior to appointment and current at all times.
A National Police Check completed within 12 months prior to appointment and every three (3) years thereafter.
