The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for managing and maintaining the Society’s social media presence across platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, using Meta Business Suite to plan, schedule and monitor content. This role involves creating and publishing engaging and informative content, including historical photographs, collection highlights, event promotions, volunteer spotlights, heritage facts, local history features, and Society news and updates. The coordinator will also promote and celebrate the cultural heritage of the Menang Noongar people as the Traditional Custodians of the Albany (Kinjarling) region, ensuring content is respectful, accurate and culturally appropriate. All social media communications must align with the Society’s mission, values and branding, while maintaining a consistent voice and visual identity across platforms. The role also requires monitoring social media trends, audience engagement and platform developments to identify opportunities to expand reach, strengthen community connections and enhance the Society’s online presence.

Content Creation

The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for creating engaging and informative content that promotes the Society’s activities, collections and heritage objectives. This includes writing compelling captions, promotional copy and social media posts tailored to different audiences and platforms. The role requires sourcing, researching and preparing historical content for publication, ensuring information is accurate, relevant and presented in an engaging manner. The coordinator will also create basic graphics, posters and promotional materials using approved design tools and, where experience permits, produce and coordinate video content to further enhance audience engagement.

Community Engagement

The Social Media Coordinator will actively monitor the Society’s social media platforms, responding professionally and promptly to comments, messages and community enquiries. The role involves fostering positive relationships with followers, encouraging community participation and maintaining a welcoming online presence. The coordinator will also identify and share relevant content from partner organisations, historical societies and community groups that align with the Society’s values, heritage focus and community interests.

Email and Enquiry Management

The Social Media Coordinator will monitor and review incoming community emails and online enquiries, ensuring requests are addressed in a timely and professional manner. Routine enquiries may relate to museum visits, memberships, events and activities, volunteer opportunities, historical information requests, research enquiries, donations and collection offers. The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to direct enquiries to the appropriate Society representatives when necessary.

Event Promotion and Public Relations

The Social Media Coordinator will support the promotion of Society events, exhibitions and community programs through coordinated online and digital marketing activities. This includes creating event pages, developing promotional campaigns and preparing content to increase community awareness and participation. Where appropriate, the coordinator may assist in coordinating publicity activities with local media outlets, community organisations and partner groups to strengthen the Society’s public profile and outreach efforts.

Records and Administration

The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for maintaining organised records of digital content, photographs, promotional materials and communication activities. The role requires ensuring that all published content complies with copyright requirements, permissions and relevant publishing standards. Accurate record-keeping and adherence to organisational policies will support the effective management and preservation of the Society’s digital assets.
