Create meaningful connections in your community genU’s Social Support Shared and Respite Living Home Visiting Program supports people living with disability who may be experiencing social isolation and loneliness to feel more connected with their community.
The role: Our Volunteer Visitors are thoughtfully matched with a person living with disability in a Shared and Respite Living Home within your local community. Through regular visits, you will build genuine connections, provide companionship, and help brighten someone’s day. No previous experience is necessary — just a willingness to listen, engage, and share meaningful moments together.
Activities may include:
- Enjoying a chat over a cuppa
- Listening to music
- Playing cards or board games
- Looking through photo albums
- Sharing stories and conversation
- Cooking together
- Participating in arts and crafts
Our Client We are looking for a patient and supportive volunteer to connect with a woman in her late 50s who has an intellectual disability. She enjoys talking about her Spanish heritage, cooking, crocheting, knitting, dancing and travelling. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys conversation, cultural connection and helping build social confidence through companionship and shared interests.

About you:
- Friendly and approachable – able to make people feel comfortable and welcomed
- Good communication skills – enjoys chatting and engaging in meaningful conversation
- Empathetic and compassionate – understanding of the importance of companionship and social connection
- Patient and understanding – especially when supporting people with intellectual disabilities
- Reliable and committed – able to attend visits consistently and build trust
- Respectful and inclusive – values diversity, individuality and personal choice
- Supportive and community-minded – passionate about making a positive difference in someone’s life
Time Commitment: Volunteering shifts are available between the hours of 11:30am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday with visits weekly or fortnightly. At genU, we’re all about flexibility. Let’s chat and find the hours which suit you best!
