Want to make a difference with your volunteering, preserving maritime history while spending your time with a great team in a friendly environment?
Sydney Heritage Fleet is a volunteer organisation dedicated to preserving, restoring and operating vessels which represent Australia's maritime history. They include Tall Ship James Craig, 1912 K-class ferry Kanangra, coastal steamship John Oxley, 1902 steam tug Waratah, 1902 VIP steam launch Lady Hopetoun, 1903 schooner Boomerang, Tugs and several diesel motor launches.
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join as tour guides, welcoming visitors on board this historic sailing ship. The 1874 Tall Ship James Craig is a globally recognised restoration of a classic 19th-century, fully rigged iron barque. Volunteers have the opportunity to step back in time and participate in the presentation of the beautifully restored Tall Ship James Craig.
About you: You enjoy engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and countries, guiding them around the James Craig while sharing the ship’s fascinating history and details of its restoration. You thrive as part of a small, dedicated volunteer team, with no strict commitment other than your availability on select days. No specific qualifications or prior knowledge are required—just a genuine desire to showcase the ship, share information about its features, activities, and events, and promote the Sydney Heritage Fleet. Training and information resources will be provided. You have an interest in maritime heritage and enjoy meeting new people. You possess confident communication skills. You are available ideally to volunteer one day per week (Monday to Sunday). We are currently in need for guides on Wednesdays.
