Board Treasurer

Location: Sydney / hybrid Commitment: Approx. 6–8 hours per month Term: 2 years, renewable Role type: Volunteer

About All Together Thriving

All Together Thriving is a community charity helping people feel less alone through connection, wellbeing and practical support. We support cancer survivors, children with additional needs and their families through Healthy Happy Friends and Move Cancer Out of This Town.

We are seeking a volunteer Board Treasurer to join our Board and help guide the organisation with strong financial oversight, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to purpose.

About the role

The Treasurer is the Board lead for the Finance & Risk Pillar. This is a governance role, not a bookkeeping or day-to-day finance role.

Working with the Chair, Board, CEO and external accountants or advisers, you will help ensure All Together Thriving remains financially responsible, sustainable and well governed as it grows.

The role focuses on budgets, forecasts, financial reporting, cashflow, financial controls, grant compliance, insurance, broader risk oversight and financial sustainability across both flagship programs.

Key responsibilities

You will help the Board by:

  • Overseeing the Finance & Risk Pillar and supporting disciplined growth
  • Reviewing budgets, forecasts and financial reports
  • Helping the Board understand the organisation’s financial position
  • Providing oversight of cashflow, financial sustainability and controls
  • Monitoring financial risk, compliance, insurance and key mitigations
  • Supporting grant financial compliance and acquittals where needed
  • Liaising with accountants, auditors or other external finance support
  • Presenting clear financial updates at Board meetings
  • Escalating material financial or compliance risks through the agreed process
  • Contributing to strategy, growth, risk and sustainability discussions
  • Participating in the Finance & Risk Subcommittee

Strategy alignment

This role supports the Finance & Risk Pillar and 2026 strategy, including securing $300k–$500k in grants, clubs and philanthropy, maintaining a funding pipeline, operating at around break-even to 5% surplus, diversifying income, maintaining ACNC compliance and improving financial reporting, governance and risk frameworks.

The Treasurer also helps support multi-year funding, stronger financial sustainability, organisational maturity and safe, sustainable program delivery across both flagship programs.

The role helps guide the Board in line with All Together Thriving’s risk appetite, including zero tolerance for participant harm, low appetite for financial sustainability, governance and compliance risk, and moderate appetite for innovation and growth where well managed.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with financial capability, practical judgement and a values-aligned approach.

The right person will have:

  • A relevant degree in accounting, finance, commerce, business or a related field
  • Experience in finance, accounting, audit, commercial leadership, business advisory, risk or governance
  • Confidence reading and interpreting financial reports
  • The ability to explain financial information clearly and simply
  • An understanding of accountability, compliance and good governance
  • A thoughtful, collaborative approach and willingness to ask the right questions
  • A genuine interest in community impact and contributing to something meaningful

Previous Board or not-for-profit experience is welcome, but not essential.

Board expectations

All Board members prepare for and attend meetings, contribute to strategy, risk, governance and sustainability, act in the organisation’s best interests, maintain confidentiality, declare conflicts, support our values and act as ambassadors where appropriate.

Time commitment

Approx. 6–8 hours per month, including Board meetings, Finance & Risk Subcommittee meetings, reading papers and occasional follow-up. The Finance & Risk Subcommittee meets every 6 weeks before the Board meeting.

Why join us

Help shape a purpose-led charity deeply connected to community. You will join a Board focused on doing things well and building something sustainable that can make a real difference.

Diversity and inclusion

We welcome diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We value lived experience, empathy, integrity and a community-centred approach.
