About the role

As Artful Dodgers Studio Volunteer you will provide vital support to the Artful Dodgers Studio Team to empower young people to develop skills, explore freely, make independent choices and embrace healthy risks.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Assist Studio set up and pack down
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support where required
  • Support participants engagement and safety
  • Provide general peer support mentorship
  • Opportunity to support facilitation of creative workshops if appropriate
  • Support general studio operations including participant orientation
  • Opportunity to support participants in cooking, meal prep and life skills

Volunteer Requirements:

To be successful in this role you will :

  • Hold an interest and/or experience in supporting people who experience mental health concerns
  • Hold an interest in or currently engage in creative practice (helpful but not essential)
  • Lead with a trauma informed and care-led approach to working with others
  • Be proactive team player
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Have active listening skills
  • Have warm and friendly approach
  • Be flexible and have can-do attitude to work
  • Have understanding and be aligned with the mission and ethos of Jesuit Social Services
  • Demonstrate respect and acceptance of diversity at all times and provide culturally appropriate support to all including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and those who identify as LGBTQIA+
  • Interact with staff, participants and other stakeholders in a manner that is inclusive, respectful and non-discriminatory

About the program

The Artful Dodgers Studios provides trauma-informed, arts-based engagement for young people between the ages of 16 - 28 years experiencing mental health, psychosocial, and intersectional life challenges. The Artful Dodgers Studios was established in 1996 in recognition of the key roles of art, music and culture in both supporting the positive social development of the individual and the creation of a more inclusive and socially just society. It works to enhance young peoples’ artistic skills, and community connectedness while promoting health and wellbeing. Young people can choose to access the Studios’ facilities and/or participate in the range of art, music and performance programs on offer.
