Marketing Support Volunteer
Reports To: Artistic Director
Commitment
Flexible, approximately 3-5 hours per week, with additional opportunities during production and event periods. We welcome volunteers who can contribute on a regular ongoing basis as well as providing support around specific projects and campaigns.
Location
Attendance at some rehearsals, performances, fundraising events and meetings in Sydney, with remote flexibility when in-person attendance is not needed.
Position Summary
Operantics' Marketing Support Volunteers assist with the promotion of Operantics' productions, concerts, fundraising campaigns and organisational activities. This role provides an opportunity to contribute directly to the growth of an ambitious independent arts organisation while sharing professional expertise and supporting the development of Australia's emerging artists.
Key Responsibilities
There are many areas of marketing our volunteers may support us with based on their skills and interest, including but not limited to:
Content Creation
- Drafting social media posts and captions
- Designing social media assets, posters and programs
- Assisting with newsletter and eDM content
- Writing short website articles, artist profiles and event copy
- Developing content ideas and campaign concepts
- Drafting press releases and pitching stories and interviews to media outlets
Social Media
- Scheduling content across social media platforms
- Assisting with content planning and campaign calendars
- Capturing or sourcing content from rehearsals, performances and events
- Shooting and editing short form video content for social media
Marketing Administration
- Updating website content
- Maintaining marketing databases and contact lists
- Assisting with audience research and competitor analysis
- Compiling marketing reports and campaign results
Publicity & Partnerships
- Researching media contacts and promotional opportunities
- Assisting with distribution of media releases and promotional materials
- Supporting community outreach and partnership activities
- Identifying opportunities to promote Operantics through community groups and networks
Strategic Marketing Support
- Providing advice on marketing strategy and audience development
- Sharing professional expertise and industry knowledge
- Contributing ideas to strengthen Operantics' profile and reach
- Mentoring emerging arts administrators or volunteers where appropriate
Fundraising Support
- Assisting with donor communications and stewardship activities
- Supporting fundraising campaigns and special events
- Helping prepare campaign materials and promotional content
Skills & Experience

- Individuals with experience in marketing, communications, media, fundraising, business development or related fields
Successful applicants will generally have:
- Strong written communication skills
- Good organisational and administrative abilities
- An interest in the arts, culture or community organisations
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Confidence using digital communication tools
The following would be advantageous but are not required:
- Marketing or communications experience
- Experience with Canva or graphic design tools
- Experience with email marketing platforms
- Experience with social media scheduling tools
- Photography or videography skills
- Knowledge of classical music, opera or the performing arts
