PCYC emergency services cadet program is about mentoring young people in "everything" emergency services! The program is about giving young people life skills, building confidence, developing effective communication styles; as well as creating pathways into emergency services and volunteering.

Our Redland City ESC unit based at Cleveland, is currently looking for a new DLCC - Deputy Local Cadet Coordinator to help lead the unit, working under the guidance of the unit LCC - Local Cadet Coordinator Brad Truman. You will be volunteering and leading other volunteer leaders, cadets, and PCYC staff to assist with delivering the ESC program. The DLCC

The ESC program is offered to young people aged 12 to 17 and usually operates out of an Emergency Service facility (such as a local SES headquarters or Rural Fire Service station). The Cadet Unit is managed under the leadership and guidance of volunteer Adult Leaders with mentoring and activities from Emergency Services personnel. Activities often include First aid, casualty management, search and rescue, swift water theory, road safety, forensics, highway patrol, K9 units, navigation, radio communications, Q&A with ES personnel, team building and problem solving​.

This program offers cadets a greater understanding of the emergency services sector, and the roles and responsibilities undertaken by various emergency services personnel. ESC also assists cadets to feel a sense of place within their community, to understanding of the value of volunteering and to feel more confident in their personal abilities.​

ESC program aims to provide a fun, safe and inclusive environment for young people to develop communication skills, interpersonal skills and initiative through various topics and exercises. The program works closely with emergency services to foster personal growth in cadets and encourage them to explore both paid and volunteering roles within the emergency services whilst building community resilience. Emergency Services Cadets can also complete the Duke of Edinburgh Awards through their participation in the program.

General task required of the DLCC are listed below: Maintain positive working relationships with all roles reportable to the DLCC position and positions of which the DLCC is responsible to report to. • Assist with management of the Emergency Services Cadets Unit, following the guidance of program staff, the LCC and guiding procedures and principles. • Assist with fostering positive working relationships with the sponsoring emergency service and all supporting emergency services within the local region. • Assist the LCC with the management and coordination of training and Cadet sessions. • Assist the LCC with finance and administrative matters relative to the Unit. • Monitor Cadet Mailbox for Unit • Maintain a high standard of care regarding child safety, workplace health and safety, behaviour management and supervision of young people. • Bring to the notice of the PCYC program staff any Adult Leader who is non-compliant with the PCYC Code of Conduct. • Monitor the strict adherence to the uniform procedure by all Cadets and Adult Leaders, setting a good example as DLCC. • Notify the Local Cadet Coordinator of intent to be absent at least 4 hours prior to session or event.

Skills and Experience Required: Ability to manage, coordinate and provide leadership to young people • Ability to support and manage a team, complimentary to a volunteerism culture • Ability to work with a wide range of key stakeholders and personnel • Sound financial management, training or event coordination skills and resource management skills • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – including written An understanding or ability to understand the vision of the program, the ethos of PCYC Queensland and working with volunteers. • The ability to gain or demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of employment equity, ethical behaviour and conduct; and workplace health and safety issues.
