Join NSW SES as a Volunteer – Make a Real Difference

When emergencies strike, communities turn to the NSW State Emergency Service (SES).

Behind every response is a team of dedicated volunteers, and we need people like you.

You don’t have to be on the front line to save lives. Whether you’re hands-on, organised, or a great communicator, your skills can make a critical difference in helping us prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

No matter your experience or background, there’s a role for you:

  • Flood Rescue Operators – Help save lives during flood emergencies.
  • Storm Operators – Respond to storm damage and help protect homes and communities.
  • Administration Officers – Keep operations running smoothly behind the scenes.
  • Community Engagement Officers – Educate and connect with the community to improve preparedness.
  • Membership Officers – Support and strengthen our volunteer workforce.

Behind the scenes roles also play a critical part in planning and coordinating responses to floods, storms, and other emergencies.

You may work across functions such as Planning, Intelligence, Logistics, Operations, and Public Information, supporting the Incident Controller, operations teams, and crews on the ground.
