Volunteer Computer Repair & Electronics Enthusiasts – Help Build Our eTech Hub

Are you passionate about computers, electronics, tinkering, repairing, or teaching others? We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help organise and develop our community eTech Hub – a social activity space where people can explore technology, learn new skills, and connect with like-minded enthusiasts.

About the Role

Over the years we've accumulated a large collection of computers, electronic equipment, components, tools, and technology-related resources. We need volunteers to help sort, assess, organise, repair, and repurpose these items so they can be used for community projects, workshops, learning activities, and fundraising initiatives.

Depending on your interests and skills, you may assist with:

  • Sorting and cataloguing computers, electronics, components, and equipment
  • Testing items to determine what is working, repairable, reusable, or suitable for recycling
  • Repairing computers, peripherals, and electronic devices
  • Refurbishing donated computers for community use or fundraising sales
  • Organising storage areas, workspaces, and equipment inventories
  • Assisting with the creation of electronics and STEM teaching models
  • Helping develop hands-on learning activities and demonstrations
  • Mentoring community members interested in technology, electronics, and repair skills
  • Contributing ideas for future workshops, projects, and community activities

Skills and Experience

We welcome volunteers with a range of experience levels, including:

  • Computer repair and troubleshooting
  • Electronics repair, soldering, or prototyping
  • IT, networking, maker, hobbyist, engineering, or technical backgrounds
  • Experience working with recycled or refurbished technology
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A willingness to share knowledge and work collaboratively

Formal qualifications are not required. Enthusiasm, patience, and a practical approach are highly valued.

Experience working with neurodivergent individuals or within neurodiverse communities is highly desirable. We aim to create an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment where people of all abilities can participate, learn, and contribute.

About Our Organisation

Our eTech Hub is a community-focused technology and social activity space that encourages learning, creativity, sustainability, repair culture, and social connection. We believe technology can bring people together, build confidence, develop practical skills, and reduce electronic waste through repair and reuse.

Benefits of Volunteering

As a volunteer you will:

  • Work alongside other technology and electronics enthusiasts
  • Gain hands-on experience with a wide variety of equipment and projects
  • Share your skills and learn from others
  • Help reduce electronic waste through repair and reuse
  • Contribute to meaningful community education activities
  • Build social connections in a friendly and supportive environment
  • Help shape the future development of the eTech Hub

Impact

Your contribution will help transform unused equipment into valuable community resources, support educational activities, create fundraising opportunities, and provide a welcoming space where people can learn, connect, and explore technology together.

Whether you're an experienced technician, electronics hobbyist, retired engineer, maker, IT professional, or simply enjoy fixing things, we'd love to hear from you.
