Why volunteer at Oxfam Australia?

At Oxfam Australia, we believe all lives are equal and no one should live in poverty. We are a member of Oxfam International, a global confederation working with partners and local communities in over 70 countries.

Volunteering at Oxfam means you will be part of an organisation that is making a difference. You can learn new skills (or add to the skills you already have), meet like-minded people and contribute to realising a more just and equal world.

The role

Oxfam Australia sees reconciliation with First Peoples as critical to achieving a just world without poverty, and critical for building a decolonial world. In 2025, Oxfam Australia launched our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan. This is the sixth RAP launched by the Oxfam which outlines our commitment to advancing reconciliation and First Nations Justice. The People & Culture team at Oxfam Australia are looking to engage a volunteer to support with prescribed projects relevant to the team and for a motivated individual to utilise their unique skills and experience to help us progress initiatives outlined in this plan.

Key tasks

  • Assist team members who sit on the RAP with progressing current projects and initiatives relevant to the People & Culture function. Tasks may include providing support with developing new (or updating existing) resources, event support, drafting internal communications and/or general administration and project management support

  • Provide support with creating new or amending existing policies that relate to projects/initiatives prescribed in the RAP (optional) - attend Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group meetings (held once a fortnight)

  • Other similar tasks as required

Experience/skills/qualifications required

  • Experience with working or volunteering in previous project management roles is advantageous (but not essential)

  • Experience with using MS suite applications

  • Experience with using project management tools (advantageous, but not essential)

  • A commitment to reconciliation and interest in progressing initiatives outlined in Oxfam Australia’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan
