Local Literacy Champion: Carlton

Reading Out of Poverty

Logo for Reading Out of Poverty

ROOP (Reading out of Poverty) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to transforming children’s lives through the power of literacy. We work with community-focused organisations to deliver free literacy packs, pop-up libraries, bilingual books and Christmas gifts to children aged 0–5 from disadvantaged backgrounds; supporting early learning, parent engagement and lifelong opportunity.

The Local Literacy Champion: Carlton is a local community member with a passion for childhood literacy. On a monthly basis they will dedicate 1/2 day to topping up local community libraries within their suburb and delivering additional Literacy packs to Community Services. Total time committment is 6 days per year. This will also involve visiting our office located at 20 Commercial Road, Melbourne to obtain stock (approx every 3 months) and storing surplus items prior to delivery.
