This volunteer opportunity will help to support frail aged and older gentlemen to participate in social outings and community activities that promote connection, well-being and enjoyment
Volunteers support the Respite Care Team to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants can build meaningful connections with their peers, share stories, and enjoy fun-filled activites while out and about.
Please note that this volunteering position requires a commitment of a full day 8am to 4pm on a Friday either weekly or fortnightly. Time and day is not negotiable as the activity is pre-planned for Fridays only and transport is by BlueCare buses which leave the centre at 8am and may not return until 3pm after dropping participants home.

✅ What you’ll be doing:
Welcome and engage participants in friendly conversation

Assist participants to safely board and exit the bus, under direction from the Respite Team

Encourage social interaction and inclusion among particpants

Help to maintain a positive and safe atmosphere while travelling and at venues

Assist to order meals at cafes and restaurants and service of food and beverage delivery to tables

Assist with preparation and service of food and beverages for morning and afternoon teas when held at local parks, picnic grounds etc

Assist with pushing wheelchairs and aiding wheelie walker users (wheelchair training will be provided)

Follow all safety procedures and volunteer guidelines, as directed by the Respite Team

Inform the Respite Team of any participant concerns or needs

☑️ Requirements of this role include:
- No previous experience in aged care is required. However volunteers should have the ability to build positive relationships with frail aged & elderly people in a respectful and courteous manner. Volunteers should have good communication and listening skills, patience, empathy and be reliable and punctual. They should be committed to promoting dignity, inclusion and meaningful engagement for frail aged and elderly people from diverse backgrounds.
