The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this opportunity on behalf of Balwyn Community Centre.
Position Summary
The Volunteer will facilitate the weekly Wednesday morning walk, welcome participants and encourage inclusive conversations. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys getting outside, meeting new people and creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the weekly Step & Connect walking group each Wednesday morning.
- Welcome participants and help new members feel comfortable and included.
- Encourage conversation and interaction among group members during, and after, the walk.
- Engage with participants through the group's WhatsApp chat by sharing reminders, updates and encouraging participation.
- Liaise with community centre staff regarding attendance, feedback, or issues that arise.
Skills and Qualities
- Friendly, approachable, and welcoming personality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enjoys meeting new people and helping others connect.
- Reliable and committed to attending weekly walks.
- Physically able to lead a walk of up to 1 hour in length (please note that there are some hills in the area surrounding the Community Centre).
- Ability to lead a group in a confident and inclusive manner.
About the Balwyn Community Centre Located in a beautiful garden setting, Balwyn Community Centre is a place to learn, grow and meet new people. The Centre offers a range of different courses and workshops, as well as a community garden, function centre and occasional child care centre.
