Volunteer: Website Developer
Focus Area: Website Development, UX/UI, SEO & Digital Communications
The Website Developer Volunteer will support the enhancement and ongoing development of Team Rainbow’s website and digital presence. This role is ideal for students or emerging professionals seeking experience in web development, UX/UI design, accessibility, and digital communications within the not-for-profit sector.
What will be Required of the Volunteer -- Technical Skills & Knowledge
The successful volunteer should demonstrate capability or developing experience in:
• Website development and maintenance • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, or related web technologies • Website content management systems (CMS) • Responsive and mobile-first design principles • UX/UI design and website usability optimisation • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) principles • Website accessibility standards and WCAG compliance • Integration of forms, payment systems, event systems, and membership platforms • Website analytics and performance optimisation • Graphic and multimedia content integration • Basic cybersecurity and website maintenance practices
Experience with WordPress, Elementor, Squarespace, Wix, or similar platforms would be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
The volunteer will be expected to:
• Review Team Rainbow’s current website structure, functionality, and user experience • Recommend improvements to website navigation, accessibility, and engagement • Redesign or enhance selected pages and digital content • Improve mobile responsiveness and cross-device compatibility • Optimise website performance, loading speed, and SEO visibility • Integrate membership, donation, volunteer, and event functionality • Support content updates including images, graphics, videos, and written content • Ensure branding consistency across digital platforms • Implement accessibility improvements aligned with inclusive best practice • Conduct website testing and troubleshoot technical issues • Prepare documentation and recommendations for future website management • Assist with digital communications strategies where appropriate
Deliverables
By the completion of the role, the volunteer is expected to provide:
• Improved website functionality and user experience • Updated or redesigned website pages • SEO and accessibility improvements • Technical and content management documentation • Recommendations for future website development and maintenance

Across all roles, volunteers will:

These volunteer roles are designed to be flexible, practical, portfolio-building, and socially impactful, with outcomes that benefit both the volunteer and Team Rainbow’s long-term digital capability.
Working Arrangements
Hours
• Approximately 100 volunteer hours across the project period. • Flexible scheduling to accommodate work, study, and personal commitments. • Combination of remote work and on-site activities.
Support and Supervision
The Volunteer will receive:
• Regular support and guidance from Team Rainbow committee members. • Opportunities to collaborate with community stakeholders. • Structured feedback throughout the project. • Recognition of volunteer service and contribution.
Costs to Volunteers
There are no fees payable to Team Rainbow Inc to participate in this volunteer role.
Volunteers are responsible for:
• Their own transport to and from meetings and event venues. • Any personal expenses associated with participation.
No mandatory training costs apply.
