Organisation description:

Wingate Avenue Community Centre (WingCC) provides services to community members living in the Ascot Vale Housing Estate and the surrounding area, with a priority for people experiencing vulnerabilities. The Centre’s mission is to focus on social justice, advocacy and action on behalf of local people who are experiencing disadvantage, which we believe will lead to improving the quality of life and empowerment for all in the local community. To achieve this, our core aim is to be aware of, and responsive to, the changing needs and aspirations of residents, particularly those experiencing barriers to participation.

As a not-for-profit incorporated association, WingCC is governed by a Committee of Management (CoM) comprised of local community members who set strategic direction and ensure sound management practices. WingCC provides place-based services, including childcare, education programs, employment support, and a variety of community programs and activities.

Position description:

The Treasurer provides essential financial oversight and expertise, contributing to WingCC’s mission of social justice, advocacy, and empowerment through sound financial governance.

Working with the General Manager, bookkeeper, and auditor, the Treasurer ensures WingCC’s financial health, transparency, and compliance with regulations. As a member of the CoM, the Treasurer also contributes to broader governance areas, including financial management, funding, risk oversight, compliance, and policy.

The Treasurer monitors the finances of the Centre. In consultation with the General Manager, bookkeeper and auditor, the Treasurer sets the budget and presents it to the CoM for approval. They keep the CoM informed of the Centre’s financial position monthly, and make recommendations about the Centre’s financial capacity.

Location: 13A Wingate Avenue, Ascot Vale

Skills required:

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Professional experience in finance or accounting (CPA, CA, or similar qualification preferred).
  • Familiarity with financial governance and reporting in a not-for-profit or community setting.

Time required: Approximately 1.5 hours per month for an in-person Committee meeting, plus additional time for reading papers, reviewing financial reports and meeting preparation.

Commitment required: Ongoing commitment, with a minimum commitment of 6 months.

  • Agreement to follow organisational policies, including confidentiality and respect for sensitive financial and organisational information
